God’s Headache This Morning

Isaiah 42:18-20

Hear, you deaf;

    look, you blind, and see!

Who is blind but my servant,

    and deaf like the messenger I send?

Who is blind like the one in covenant with me,

    blind like the servant of the Lord?

You have seen many things, but you pay no attention;

    your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

In the Western parts of the world, people living with disabilities either in sight or hearing, are more privileged than in Ghana due to their system of technology . In our part of the  world , Ghana, people with  disabilities such as: hearing impairment, visually impaired among others are highly vulnerable and dependent on the assistance of the ones supporting them. (Either to lead them on their path or to aid them in hearing and comprehending words spoken to them)

Should a blind man walk pass a market woman’s foodstuffs, and hits against them and it falls to the ground, he will be pardoned or considered because his vision is impaired and for that matter, needs assistance from one who can see. Those around will even plead on behalf of the blind man that he should be pardoned because he can’t see.

Same thing applies to the deaf. If a deaf man acts in an inappropriate manner either than what he’s been instructed to do, he will be pardoned or  considered because his hearing is impaired and for that matter he needs someone to interpret and help him comprehend words by using sign language ( the only language he understands).

Let's raise the bar. Now, should you and I, with perfectly sound vision hit against aunty Araba’s food stuff at the market and they fall to the ground and unfortunately for us, some enters into the gutter, my brother,my sister we are doomed. What do you think will be her reaction?  The first question she will utter is, “can’t your eyes see well?” Or “wo nante a, wonhw3 w’anim?”. Comparing these two scenarios and the reactions from aunty Araba and the people around her. What do you think influenced the reactions of aunty Araba In these two scenarios ? The  state or  condition of the person who caused the act.

Let’s come back to our scripture for today

Isaiah 42:18-20

Hear, you deaf;

    look, you blind, and see!

Who is blind but my servant,

    and deaf like the messenger I send?

Who is blind like the one in covenant with me,

    blind like the servant of the Lord?

You have seen many things, but you pay no attention;

    your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

God is saying to us this morning that, if it is the people of the world who are blind to see and pay attention and the deaf, to listen and comprehend to His instructions, not us His servants who are perfectly sound in vision and can hear Him excellently.

“ Hear, you deaf;

    look, you blind, and see!

Who is blind but my servant? “

If the people of the world, who are blind and are not seeing and taking wrong paths that causes them destructions, should we His servants with perfectly sound vision, also tend to be  blind and take wrong paths?

We, His servants who are suppose to assist and direct the blind (i.e people of the world) are also acting blind by not paying attention and seeing what is going on with the blind(the destruction).

“Who is blind like the one in covenant with me,

    blind like the servant of the Lord?”

If it is the people of the world, who are deaf and can’t listen and understand the instructions of God and it is causing them to do the wrong things, should we as His servants who are excellently sound in hearing, also miss instructions and do otherwise?

“Hear, you deaf;

    look, you blind, and see!

Who is blind but my servant,

    and deaf like the messenger I send?”

We, His servants, who He has entrusted into our care, the deaf ( the people of the world) to help them listen and comprehend to the laws and instructions of God, we have tend to live like people who are deaf. And we are not listening to Him Just like how a fleet of cows is entrusted into the hands of a fulani to lead the cows through the journey to their field of pasture to graze, and he prevents them from going the wrong direction or being hit be a car, that is the same way as God’s servants, He has entrusted into our care people(deaf, blind) who need direction but most of us now are also cows and not the Fulani. And we all, together with cows (blind & deaf) are all missing directions and some being hit by cars.

This is God’s headache this morning. If anyone should be blind, not my servants whom I count on to lead the way. What then happens to this blind generation?

If anyone should be deaf, it shouldn’t be the ones I have chosen to be my messengers. What then happens to this deaf generation?
