Ezekiel 34:1-2, verses 11-15 & verses 17-22
Job seekers are one of the most humble caliba of human beings when they are in search of a
job. They are ready to make all documents necessary available for you to be convinced that they are qualified for the job only for you to grant them the job and see them upgrading their lives looking all sleek and healthy while scattering what you’ve toiled to gather. (clients, capital, niche for your brand).
Due to this, these days, entrepreneurs or shop owners are very careful with who they hand over their shops to in terms of a position someone wants to occupy. Because they are not only handing over that position to you but also their clients to you. A few months after the clients have been left in the care of the worker, the shop owner starts to receive complaints from their clients as to how they are being treated and served. (poor customer service, poor business management etc)
God has entrusted into our hands sheep’s to watch over, to tend to them and make sure that they are satisfied and safe. If we were not qualified as sherpherds, He wouldn’t have entrusted into our hands sheep to tend to but it looks like we are failing , we are disappointing what he expects of us, we are doing the opposite of what He expects of us to do. He is asking us that did we show case al those qualities only for him to choose us and see us disappoint him?, He is asking that did we purpose to deceive Him? The Lord is giving us a caution today as shepherds who have abandoned the work of tending to the flock and rather taking care of ourselves. In other words, focusing on our businesses, career, going about our lives for our personal gains and abandoning the flock who have been entrusted in our care.
Verses 1-3
The word of the LORD came to me:
2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?
3 You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock.
A lot of us find our legs in the shoes of the worker, where we hold the title as workers alone but are not doing the work of the role assigned to us. Entrepreneurs(God) has handed over their shops (sheep) to us (shepherds) but we are not serving them as the position we hold requires of us to. That is why we find most shop owners in the long run due to the consistent unpleasant attitude of roles assigned to workers.
Every worker that comes showcases the same attitude towards the role of the work and they are left with no hope than to shut down the shop or business. But with Jesus, the evangelical business of winning souls into the kingdom of God can never be closed down or shut down no matter what because this kind of business in the kingdom of God is what He God finds pleasure and fulfillment in so if we the workers (shepherds) are not ready to commit and serve in our maximum capacity, just like how certain shop owners in the long run make decisions of running and sitting in their own shop to keep the business active and productive, He God himself we’ll be the shepherd then and perform all the roles required of a shepherd.
Verses 11-15
“ ‘For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD.
God comes back to say not only will He take up the roe of a shepherd by making sure they eat good pasture, and ensure their safety but also, He will let fairness and justice prevail amongst the sheep. In as much as He provides good pasture and ensures safety amongst the sheep, their minds and heart towards each other should set right and be genuine as some sheep can be a threat to the others. thereby making His service to them in vain. So the Lord said He will deal with other matters concerning His flocks after He has done the needful for their growth.
Verses 17-22
“As for you, my flock, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will judge between one sheep and another, and between rams and goats.
Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet?
Must my flock feed on what you have trampled and drink what you have muddied with your feet?
“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away,
I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another.
Matters concerning jealousy, envy, backbiting, hurting and intimidating the weak sheep, gossiping. God said he will have to address all these issues too because it can cause some sheep that turn victim to these acts to leave.
Shepherds, ensuring the growth and safety of the sheep is good but it is not enough. There is more to it, ensure fairness and justice amongst your flock because through that too, you might loose them. Pay close attention to everything concerning your flock.
